Telemedicine to Enhance Patient Care at Cox Barton County Hospital

July 23, 2019, 9:46 am

Cox Barton County Hospital will soon use telemedicine to provide physician care to its patients during the evening hours and weekends.

The new technology at Cox Barton County will allow doctors to see, hear and speak with patients and their family members, and perform clinical examinations, via a monitor with the bedside assistance of nursing staff.

“It has become common practice for rural hospitals to utilize telehealth services because of the versatility of this care delivery tool,” says Chris Wyatt, president of Cox Barton County Hospital. “Our patients continue to give us high marks for the great care they receive, and I feel this partnership will be a seamless transition for that same continuity of care for coverage.”

While hospitalists (inpatient physicians) have always been present at the hospital during daytime hours – just as they will continue to be – hospitalists have not been physically at the hospital during evening and overnight hours. The exception to this is in the ER, where an in-person physician is present 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The telemedicine enhancement is done in partnership with Bryan Telemedicine, a premier provider of telemedicine services that utilizes cutting-edge technology to deliver access to health care services on demand.

“Our telemedicine hospitalist programs allow patients to stay in their community who otherwise might be transferred to a larger facility,” said Dr. Brian Bossard, president of Bryan Telemedicine. “This improves patient care, outcomes, and makes Cox Barton County Hospital a stronger hospital and Lamar a stronger community.”

Community members will have an opportunity to see this new telemedicine technology, and learn more about hospitalist services, at a community forum to be held on Thursday, Aug. 8 at 6 p.m. at the Thiebaud Auditorium, 105 E. 11th Street, Lamar.

There will be a presentation of hospital department offerings, patient testimonials, an opportunity to meet hospital providers and staff, information booths, light refreshments and door prizes, including ten Amazon tablets, to be given away.
