Quit Smoking in 2019

January 7, 2019, 11:28 am

The new year brings a new chance to make a fresh commitment to better health – which for some, includes giving up smoking.

Individuals interested in breaking the habit are invited to a four-week class that will strengthen their resolve, and teach tips, tricks and a step-by-step way to help overcome the addiction. Topics include facts about smoking, why it’s difficult to quit, how to cope with urges and manage stress, and the potential benefits from stopping tobacco use.

Data proves the program’s effectiveness: To date, the quit rate at completion of the classes is 77 percent.

“Stopping smoking is one of the most difficult things people can do, and we want to help make that an easier transition for them,” says Glenda Miller, project manager with CoxHealth’s Center for Health Improvement, who is teaching the class. “Over the class sessions, we’ll share a map of sorts to help people quit. It’s not easy, but it’s always worth it in the end.”

The classes are scheduled for Wednesday evenings beginning Jan. 9, and run from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at CoxHealth’s Center for Health Improvement. A $96 fee is required to participate, but may be covered by insurance.

Registration is required, and may be done by calling 417-269-3900.
