Girls Just Wanna Run 5K/10K To Support Wellness Efforts
July 2, 2019, 4:32 am
Women of all ages will run around town on July 20 during Girls Just Wanna Run, Springfield’s first women-only 5K/10K. The event funds scholarships for FitLife, CoxHealth’s 12-week health management program that educates, encourages and empowers people to take back their health.
The event, however, is more than just the race itself. On July 19, the Fun Before the Run expo kicks things off from 3 – 7 p.m. at The Meyer Center. Participants can pick up a pink, commemorative T-shirt and packet, and visit with more than 40 vendors about the latest and greatest trends in fitness, health and beauty.
The next day, the race starts at 7:30 a.m. at Cox North, and allows participants to run or walk through one of Springfield’s historical neighborhoods. 2019’s event features a new course route, entertainment along the way – including superheroes and musicians – and pre- and post-race drum bands.
After the race is over, a block party with refreshments, music, massages and vendors provides a great way to wrap up the morning. Awards will also be presented during the party, and all finishers receive a medal.
Cost is $30 for the 5K ($35 day-of race) and $35 for the 10K ($40 day-of race). There are reduced rates for children ages 5 – 14.
