2016 Individual Special Enrollment Guide
Beginning February 1, 2016, you must have a qualifying event to enroll in individual coverage. Qualifying events are usually life changes or changes that come with a loss of minimum essential coverage. Some examples are marriage, divorce, having a baby, or loss of coverage due to employment changes. Documentation of the life events are always required as proof of your qualifying event. The completed application and first month’s premium payment are required within 60 days of the qualifying event. Please note: this only applies to Individual coverage. If you have coverage through your employer, please contact your group plan administrator for information about qualifying events, as the timeframe is different. For a more detailed description of each qualifying event and the documentation required to prove them, please visit our Resources & Forms page and click the Qualifying Event Verification PDF under Individual Metal Plan Forms.
