Nurse Practitioner Joins CoxHealth Center Mountain Grove, Willow Springs

Carla Clinton has long known that she wanted to serve others through health care. In recent weeks, Clinton brought this passion home when she began working as a nurse practitioner with CoxHealth, serving at clinics in both Mountain Grove and Willow Springs.  

“I have always been a person who loves people, so if someone is hurting, I want to help and make it better,” says Clinton.

A native of Success, Mo., Clinton has spent her entire life in the Ozarks, and much of it in rural areas as she rose through the health care ranks. 

After graduating from Licking High School, she attended Lincoln University via satellite, from which she obtained her Associate of Science in Nursing degree. She then relocated to Springfield, where she worked in intensive care units before moving to Willow Springs after marrying her husband, Dusty.

“Family has always been a very important part of my life so it was important for my husband and I to live close to family,” says Clinton. “Both of our families live close to us here.” 

After spending time in private practice, Clinton went back to school and graduated to become a nurse practitioner from Chamberlain College of Nursing. As a nurse practitioner, Clinton does many of the same things as a doctor – such as prescribing medication, examining patients, diagnosing illnesses, and providing treatment.

“The part I like most about rural health care is the fact that I have a close relationship with my patients. In a small community, you know most of your patients very well,” says Clinton. “I love being able to help people feel better. I want my patients to feel like they are special and not just another number.”   

In her spare time, Clinton enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons. As a family, they love outdoor activities including going to the lake, riding UTVs and skiing.
